Description
The material
The red is dense and slightly uneven, with pale veining that looks like smoke held still. Because the beads were cut from one piece of stock, the veining carries across the string in a way it never does when beads are sourced in bulk from different lots. Hold two beads side by side and the pattern lines up.
What it is for
Red is the working colour of celebration here — new year, weddings, opening a business. In lore it is worn to keep the year moving forward rather than to protect against anything specific.
Craftsman’s note
Heavy for its size. At 15mm this string has real weight on the wrist, which is deliberate; the same design at 12mm feels like a toy. If you have not worn a heavy bracelet before it will take a week to stop noticing it.
Wearing and care
Fits 6.5 to 7.5 inch on elastic. Keep it out of prolonged direct sun, which flattens the red over a matter of months. A dry cloth is all it needs.
