Description
The material
Amber is fossil resin, not stone, which is why a 16mm string like this weighs almost nothing compared to the agate at the same size. Held against light it goes from opaque honey to clear orange, and the internal flow lines and small inclusions become visible — those are the marks that separate real amber from pressed imitation.
What it is for
Amber is the warm-material choice in this catalogue: people who find stone bracelets cold or heavy usually end up here. In lore it is associated with settling the mind, which is why it turns up so often on prayer strings.
Craftsman’s note
The photographs of this piece were taken in the workshop under a window rather than in the studio, because the studio’s black backdrop kills the one thing worth showing — what happens when light goes through it.
Wearing and care
Fits 6.5 to 7.5 inch on elastic. Amber is soft and scratches more easily than stone; take it off before anything abrasive. Keep it away from perfume and alcohol-based cleaners, which dull the surface permanently.
