Description
The material
The dark beads are aged bone, cut small at 8mm so the whole 108 sits comfortably wrapped rather than hanging. The colour is not even from bead to bead — the darker ones came from the denser part of the stock, and they will keep darkening where your skin touches them. The green pieces are agate, and the gourd at the head is carved from a single blank rather than assembled.
What it is for
A 108 loop is a counting tool before it is jewellery. In lore, the gourd shape holds what it is given and does not let it out, which is why it sits at the head of the string rather than anywhere else. We mention this because customers ask; we are not making a claim about what it does for you.
Craftsman’s note
Small beads are harder than large ones. At 8mm the drill has almost no room for error, and one split bead wastes the whole matched run. This string took two attempts.
Wearing and care
Wrap three times for a 6.5 to 7 inch wrist. Keep it off in the shower — repeated soaking loosens the cord faster than anything else. Wipe with a dry cloth. If the cord ever softens, send it back and we will restring it at cost.
